Junior High
Art (1 semester) Grade Level: 8
Eighth grade art includes units on clay, painting, drawing, design,
problem solving and printing. The students will build basic color concepts
by introducing various color schemes. The drawing unit will emphasize
drawing from the imagination as well as drawing objects from life.
Art I (1 or 2 semesters) Grade Level: 9
This course includes discussion in the meaning, major forms, and components
of two-dimensional art. Students study elements and principles of design
used in construction of two-dimensional works, art appreciation, and art
history. Students are exposed to various mediums and techniques used in
drawing, painting, and print making. Students may be required to purchase
some consumable materials.
Clay Pottery and Sculpture
I (1 semester) Grade Level: 9
This course is designed as a basic three-dimensional course to introduce
the student to ceramic pottery and sculpture. A variety of methods and
techniques will be used. Instruction in the process, correct use of tools,
terms, and techniques will be provided. Students will be required to purchase
materials for projects, which will be taken home.
Graphic Arts (1 semester)
Grade Level: 9 (Highland East only)
The computer graphics class will be a one semester course designed to
give the artistically expressive students the opportunity to create artwork
on the computer, making use of both still and animated graphics programs.
The intent of this course is to acquaint students with the computer as
an art medium. No programming will be involved.
